Project Scope & Purpose

From 2006 to 2011, I was an ASE certified technician and spent over half of that time at a Volkswagen dealer in Memphis. I have always liked diesel engines, but even more so after working on them and learning more about them. Around 2008, I purchased a used 2003 VW diesel Jetta with the 1.9 TDI (ALH) engine. Very comfortable car and got 48-51 mpg! Hard to beat.

I was aware of Suzuki Samurai TDI conversions on the Internet, and also some Toyota pickup TDI conversions. I wanted to build either a TDI Jeep Cherokee or a TDI Toyota 4Runner. Because Acme Adapters has a production adapter kit for the 5 speed manual Toyota transmission to the TDI engine, I decided to go with the 4Runner. It will easily meet my needs of an adventure vehicle & bike, gear, & dog hauler.

This blog will be a progress log and documentary of my conversion project.
